A concise discussion of the various operative procedures for extraction of cataract is reproduced verbatim, occupying twelve pages, from " A Text-book of Ophthalmology," by John W. Wright, m.d., of Columbus, Ohio, 1896. Dr. Wright first published an account of his operation for removal of the lens in its capsule in 1881, and practised it for thirty years. In many respects it is extraordinarily like the operation as performed by Mulroney and Smith. We have the flushing of the conjunctival sac with strong sublimate (1 in 1,000), the absence of a speculum, the forward purely corneal section in one sweep of the knife, the expression of the lens in its capsule with careful reposition of the iris, and the performance of an iridectomy if the pupil
